JMI is very please to announce that we will be touring an incredible
songwriter's package in spring of 2009. The package, called
Borderlanders, features Sylvia Tyson, Ron Hynes, Gretchen Peters and
Graham Isaacson.
Sylvia Tyson - Sylvia is no less than an icon in Canadian country and folk music. From her collaboration with Ian Tyson (Ian & Sylvia) on stage, studio and television in the sixties and seventies to seven solo albums, her career has earned her a place in the Canadian Music, Country Music and Songwriter's Halls of Fame, not to mention receiving Canada's highest civilian award, the Order of Canada. Sylvia is also currently a vital part of Quartette, along with Cindy Church, Caitlin Hanford and Gwen Swick.
Ron Hynes - Newfoundland's greatest songwriter, and the author of Sonny's Dream - With a songwriting career that spans more than 30 years, Ron Hynes is a six-time East Coast Music Award winner, a Genie Award winner and a past Juno, CCMA and Canadian Folk Music Awards nominee. He's been recipient of both Artist of The Year and the prestigious Arts Achievement Award from the Newfoundland & Labrador Arts Council, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award from the St. John's Folk Arts Council. Ron Hynes also holds an Honorary PhD from Memorial University for his songwriting and cont ribution to the cultural life of his beloved home province of Newfoundland (Canada). www.hynesite.org
Gretchen Peters - (www.gretchenpeters.com) Not only has Gretchen received two or three Grammy nominations and had a Number 1 hit in the US with the anthemic Independence Day, but she has also been covered by the likes of Bryan Adams, George Strait, Shania Twain, Billy Ray Cyrus, Randy Travis, Martina McBride, Pam Tillis, Patty Loveless, George Jones, The Neville Brothers, Alabama, Michelle Wright, Faith Hill, Neil Diamond; we could keep going and going, but you get the idea.
Graham Isaacson (USA) -To categorize Graham Isaacson as a typical singer-songwriter, one would be missing the point. On his debut, Memories in Shadows, Portland, Maine-based Graham Isaacson sounds like an old soul. His Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen-inspired music evokes feelings of intimacy, truth, and heartfelt emotion. Graham took Second place honors in the 2006 International Songwriting Competition (ISC), no easy feat considering the who's who panel of judges: Tom Waits, Norah Jones, Joss Stone, and LeAnn Rimes. It's also worth mentioning that the ISC received close to 50,000 entries from 82 countries throughout the world. And yet at 23 years old, it's clear his gifts have only just begun - hear him sing.
