Harald Haugaard (violin) & Morten Alfred Høirup
(guitar) have been playing traditional & original
Danish music since July 1998 when they played their first
real concert at the European Broadcasting Unions Contemporary
Folk Festival in Portoroz in Slovenia. Since then they
have recorded four albums, all of which have been rewarded
with Danish Music Awards (Danish 'Grammy'). Haugaard
& Høirup has played a large number of concerts
in Europe, The Nordic Counties, The USA, Canada, Japan
and Australia, and has been recorded for numerous radio
and television stations. All Things Considered on
National Public Radio, said about their fourth
album 'Om Sommeren' (In the Summer); "Haugaard &
Høirup´s CD "Om Sommeren" is melodic,
accomplished and suffused with a warm beauty" while
RadioDeutschland Berlin added; "Haugaard &
Høirup is a stroke of luck for European folk music".
In March 2005 the duo performed exclusively at the 39th
National Folk Festival in Canberra, Australia, and
had a great time there:
"Guest artists from Denmark, fiddler Harald Haugaard
and guitarist Morten Høirup were the surprise hits
of the festival with their contemporary spin on traditional
Danish music. Their breathtaking skill and dedication
to their arts converted thousands of people overnight
into devoted fans of the music from the land of Hans
Christian Andersen. They delighted their audiences with
stories of the Tasmanian-Denmark connection of the Danish
Royal Family, and I think may be responsible for an influx
of Australian tourists to their nation! Im not surprised
that they were awarded the equivalent of the Danish Grammy
Award last year and may be an indication of the influx
of Danish culture to come as a result of the royal wedding".

In the spring and summer 2005 Haugaard & Høirup
toured in Denmark playing about 17 concerts with the exellent
young singer Helene Blum - known as the girl "with
a voice like an angel" - as a guest, as well as visiting
the great Orkney Folk Festival, and the Vancouver Folk
Festival.
In September 2005, Haugaard & Høirup will
be releasing their 5th album in which the typical
Haugaard & Høirup blend of traditional and
contemporary Danish music will be performed by the duo
in collaboration with a beautiful team of guest musicians;
wonderful people that the duo has worked with on their
many tours around the world.
